Royal Challengers Bangalore Won by 7 Runs | RCB Vs RR Match 32 TATA IPL 2023 M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru 23 APR 2023 3:30 PM IST

The match is poised for RR to win, with only 98 runs to win from 60 balls. With 9 wickets in hand this is looking achievable but in IPL you never know what happens. Like yesterday LSG lost from GT in a run chase which was looking almost done.

Will update this article post the match to see where it goes.

And, as was thinking, RR could not continue the momentum and lost to RCB.

In a thrilling game of cat and mouse at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, two top sides battled it out for victory. The match started with RCB electing to bowl first and doing well to get two early wickets. The home team suffered an early blow as Virat Kohli was out in the first over, followed soon by Shahbaz Ahmed.

However, a partnership between Faf and Maxwell turned the tide in RCB’s favor. Maxwell’s explosive 77(44) and Faf’s brilliant 62(39) dismantled the RR bowling attack, leaving them with no reply. But Jaiswal’s brilliance in the field got the wicket of Faf Du Plessis, changing the course of the game.

In response, RR lost Buttler early, but Jaiswal and Padikkal kept up with the asking rate.

Just when RR was cruising along, a spell from Harshal Patel changed the entire complexion of the game. The bowler used his bag of tricks and scalped three crucial wickets, making things tough for RR. Patel finished with impressive figures of 32/3 from his four overs, while David Willey played his part by being economical.

In the end, RR fell short by just 7 runs, making it a nail-biting finish. This game was a perfect example of how a game of cat and mouse can unfold in a T20 match. With such exciting performances, it’s no wonder that cricket fans can’t get enough of this thrilling sport!

Sanju Samson, Skipper : ”   I think when you are playing this ground, anything is chaseable. It is about getting the momentum right, normally, Hetmyer does it for us but he had an off-day today, one shot here and there does it for us. The thought keeps on changing, depending on how the wicket plays, we decide on the time when a wicket falls. With the IPL games, winnings and losings are done in very small margins, keep checking small boxes, we need to keep on checking all those. If we had two losses, we need to pull up our socks and come back stronger in the next game.”

Virat Kohli,  Skipper: ” To be honest, we had this discussion during the toss. The pitch looked dry and I mentioned to the guys that they will have 10 overs under lights which is very difficult out here. The advantage was the ball got scuffed up. However, with the impact player rule and the extra batter, games are always on. That’s why so many close games. The counter-attack from Maxi and Faf was even better than the Chennai game, it was a better surface that day. Maxi took the game away in just four overs. Harshal Patel always bowls the tough overs, not easy at Chinnaswamy. He’s closed out games against DC and today as well. So massive credit to the way he has performed. We trust Him to deliver at death. Whenever Hazlewood comes in, we might look like a different attack.”

Glenn Maxwell is the Player of the Match

Glenn Maxwell: “I love batting up the order. I have done it for Australia and I can do it here too. They have given me the freedom to go out there and express myself. Came into the season with good form, and have that trust from the changeroom, that makes the difference. The new ball skidded on nicely, so we had to be busy and proactive. I think the way we ended the powerplay set the foundation.”

Powerplay (1-6 Overs) :-

RCB- 62/2 (10.3 rpo, 8×4, 3×6)  ||  RR- 47/1 (7.9 rpo, 8×4, 1×6)

Middle Overs (7-15 Overs) :-

RCB- 94/2 (10.4 rpo, 7×4, 3×6)  ||  RR- 74/2 (8.2 rpo, 5×4, 3×6)

Death Overs (16-20 Overs) :-

RCB- 33/1 (6.6 rpo, 3×4, 0x6)  ||  RR- 61/3 (12.2 rpo, 5×4, 2×6)
