How Kolkata Knight Riders Won by 21 Runs?

In a shocking turn of events, KKR ends their four-match losing streak by handing a defeat to the formidable RCB in their own backyard. The visitors put up a decent target of 200 runs on the board, courtesy of a solid performance by the top order. However, it was the young leg-spinner, Suyash Sharma, who made a masterstroke by dismissing Faf Du Plessis and Shahbaz Ahmed in his first two overs in the powerplay, thereby turning the game in KKR’s favor.

It was Varun Chakravarthy, the mystery spinner who has been the top performer for KKR in the tournament, who ran through the middle order of RCB, scalping three wickets, including the prized wicket of Glenn Maxwell. Despite a valiant effort from Virat Kohli and Mahipal Lomror, the RCB kept losing wickets at regular intervals and failed to find a way back against the spin attack of KKR.

It was a happy day at work for Nitish Rana and Co. who managed to win against RCB by 21 runs. This win was significant for KKR as it ended their losing streak and gave them a much-needed boost in confidence. On the other hand, RCB will have to re-strategize their game plan as they approach the latter half of the tournament.

This match was a perfect example of how a single player or a single over can change the course of the game. The importance of having a well-balanced team, especially in T20 cricket, cannot be emphasized enough. Kolkata Knight Riders Won by 21 runs

RCB Captain Virat Kohli said:

Virat Kohli,  Skipper:  We did deserve to lose the game. To be honest we handed them a victory. We were certainly not up to the standard tonight. If you look at the game, we didn’t capitalize on our chances, We dropped a few chances which cost us 25-30 runs. We set up ourselves really well in the first couple of overs but lost momentum thereafter. We kept finding fielders. Even while chasing, despite losing wickets we were one partnership away from being in the game. We needed one partnership to get us home but tonight was not meant to be.”

KKR Captain Nitish Rana said:

Nitish Rana,  Skipper: ” I’ve been saying the same thing all the time that if we play well collectively as a unit the result will be in our favour for sure. You need a lot of character in the dressing room to give a performance like this in our situation. We believe in ourselves and knew that a bounce back is around the corner. Felt like the score was not enough but there was not much dew so it did help our spinners. It didn’t turn a lot but we bowled well and kept it tight. Suyash Sharma is a class act, he has always put his hand up in tough situations. He always says I’ll do the job. We tell him to not look at who is batting against you, just focus on your own bowling.”

Varun Chakaravarthy is the Player of the Match Match

Varun Chakaravarthy: “Last match I went for 49 and this match I did well, that’s how it goes. I’ve been more focused on accuracy rather than more variations. I didn’t want to add more variations. I have been working a lot and I’d like to credit AC Pratheepan, he’s been working hard with me on my bowling and even Abhishek Nayar”
