In the IPL innings, a score of 257 has been made only twice, with the second instance being this match. The innings started off in a stunning manner with Kyle Mayers taking on the bowling attack right from the first ball. Mayers scored 54 runs off just 24 balls, while Badoni, who was sent up the order, contributed 43 runs off 24 deliveries. The middle order continued the same attacking approach, with Stoinis scoring 70 runs off 40 balls and Pooran smashing 45 runs at an impressive strike rate of 236. Rahul Chahar was the only bowler who managed to keep the run rate below 8.00 runs per over.

Chasing a target of almost 13 runs per over proved to be a daunting task for the opposition, especially after losing their openers early in the powerplay. However, Atharva Taide, who was playing his first IPL match, impressed everyone with his half-century. Although the middle-order batsmen played some good cameos, the asking rate eventually proved to be too much. Naveen ul Haq was the pick of the LSG bowlers, taking three wickets for just 30 runs in his four overs. LSG’s 56-run victory margin will certainly boost their net run rate and may prove helpful for them in the later stages of the tournament.

Shikhar Dhawan,  Skipper: We gave too many runs and had to pay the price for it. I feel that the tactic to play with one extra pace bowler backfired whereas KL used an extra spinner which worked for them. I tried to change something and it didn’t work but that’s all right. It’s good learning for me and we’ll come back better and stronger. 

KL Rahul,  Skipper: ” Happy that we got the win. Every game from now on is very important. We came back fresher after a break. We were clear as to how to bat. When you see such wickets, you get excited as batters. Getting 250 speaks highly of how we batted. The think tank does most of the thinking and I try to understand what they are thinking. And if it suits us, we go through with the plan. It’s worked for us till now”

Marcus Stoinis: “The finger seems alright. We will get scans done and see. My plan was simple,  Was just trying to build partnerships. Ayush Badoni got off to a flyer as well. I do like to take responsibility for batting in the middle order and finishing it off. I have batted everywhere in my career and I am comfortable in any role that the franchise wants me to play. I was swinging a few in the nets. So, they got excited and gave me the new ball too”
