The home fans were left disappointed as CSK didn’t achieve the result they expected at Chepauk. CSK started their innings well with both openers capitalizing on the fielding restrictions and putting together an 86-run partnership. Shivam Dube at No.3 also managed to hit some big shots. Conway’s knock of 92 runs at a strike rate of 177 ensured that CSK set a formidable target of 201 runs. Chasing such a total was always going to be difficult with the presence of spinners in the CSK squad. However, Prabhsimran Singh and Shikhar Dhawan came out all guns blazing, reaching 50 in just 4.2 overs. Prabhsimran’s quickfire 42 off 24 balls and Liam Livingstone’s efficient innings at no.4 kept the visitors in the hunt. The 16th over, which went for 24 runs, shifted the momentum in the favor of the PBKS. Jitesh Sharma and Sam Curran also played cameos, but it was Sikandar Raza who held his nerve and secured the victory for PBKS with three runs off the last delivery. This win in CSK’s own backyard will certainly boost PBKS’ confidence going forward in the tournament.

PBKS Captain

Shikhar Dhawan,  Skipper: It feels special. Beating Chennai in Chennai is a big thing. Very happy and that shows the character of our team. I was very happy with the way our bowlers went about with their business. They have been very consistent all throughout. Liam has got his touch back and would want him to bat more overs in the middle. Good signs that all are playing well and back in form.

CSK Captain

MSD,  Skipper: ” We need to be prepared in advance about what is to be done. In the last few overs when we were batting, we could have gotten 10-15 runs more. The slower one did grip a bit on the surface. Our batters have been putting in runs consistently. I think 200 was par but we bowled two bad overs which cost us. We know the conditions well but couldn’t bowl well.

Player of the Match

Devon Conway is the Player of the Match

Devon Conway: ” The pitch was a bit slow when you hit the wicket but to be fair it was a good wicket. We felt that 200 was a very competitive score. Disappointed that we did not end up on the winning side. It is about keeping things simple, sticking to my process, and not complicating things. “
