50 Over Cricket World Cup live till 2027 or 2031?

Men’s ICC Cricket World Cup for 50 Over format started today, with the first match NZ winning against England.

Do you also feel that you are not as enthusiastic about this World Cup as we were 10-15 years ago?

What has changed?

  • Fatigue from too many cricket matches
  • IPL being played at home and taking our mind space
  • Our lives have become faster so we need quick results

The question is, will this tournament be alive for the next two seasons?

ICC need to rethink the future of the 50 Over format and this is the right time to do it, so that cricket can transform and evolve. It is said that the only constant thing is Change.

Cricket evolution is important for every stakeholder be it fans, players or boards.

How about thinking of bringing in 10-over matches too in the mainstream?

Men and Women players playing together in the same match?

Can we have more matches in Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities venues?

Bringing the cost of tickets down and making the game more popular for younger people?

Adding more countries to the franchise cricket, like the USA was added recently?

It is a good time to ponder on these and many more questions with the top brains in cricket and start on the path of evolution early so that we can discard what is not working and adapt the game to give a booster shot of vaccine.

May the cricket live longer and become better.
